This publication describes procedures for successfully composting large carcasses (cattle, horses, hogs, and etc.) as an alternative to carcass disposal by burial for routine, on-farm mortality management and for large number of mortalities due to a natural disaster. Composting basics, tools needed for compost pile construction and management, site selection, and monitoring of compost piles during different stages of this procedure are discussed in this publication.
